Auto Career Start initiative officially launches
CADA’s Auto Career Start initiative has officially launched nationally. The announcement was made by President & CEO John White during the 2018 Georgian Auto Show in Barrie, Ontario on June 1 among a crowd of auto sector executives, dealers, and students.
“In working with the provincial dealer associations, we at CADA are pleased to announce the official launch of the Auto Career Start campaign, which is aimed at helping to educate the public about the vast amount of opportunities available in the automotive retail industry, and to help connect job seekers with employers," said White.
The program was born out of a need to attract more qualified and diverse people to careers in the Canadian auto retail sector, which includes over 3,200 new car and truck dealerships throughout the country and currently employs 150,000 people nationwide. The initiative seeks to position the industry as an exciting and rewarding place to work by educating the public about the wide range of job opportunities available in the country.
To do this, CADA has created a website with an online portal that allows people to search for employment opportunities by province. Each page offers a video description about the various roles in the dealership environment, along with data related to the auto retail business, contact information, and perhaps most importantly — a Job Board that displays employment listings by province.
Prior to the launch, the Auto Career Start team started a brand awareness campaign by setting up a booth at the 2018 Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto, Ontario. They were also present at the Montreal Auto Show in January, and the 2018 Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) in Edmonton, Alberta that took place between June 4-5. The SCNC is a gathering of Canada’s best and brightest skilled trades and technology competitors, with over 40 competitions representing six sectors and 550 participants. Both events highlight the next generation of skilled trades and automotive business workforce.
The Auto Career Start team has developed a comprehensive plan to promote the initiative, including using Google AdWords on the website to target a specific audience and draw traffic to the site. Dealers and the public can also follow Auto Career Start’s Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn social media channels.
In mid-May, the Auto Career Start team put together an introductory webinar and dealers were provided an overview of how the platform works, and how they can use it to post available jobs for their dealerships. The webinar is available for viewing on the CADA website.
Dealers can also access a marketing kit from the CADA website. The kit includes images to share on social media channels, videos, printable materials for distribution, and a digital advertisement.
CADA encourages dealers to log on and post available jobs so that interested parties can apply. The first time they log on, dealers (except for Ontario dealers, who are already using the platform through TADA) will be granted five free job posting credits until Aug. 31, 2018.
