The federal government introduced its budget in the House of Commons on April 19, and announced a luxury tax on select goods that will impact certain vehicles, dealers, and provinces in Canada. CADA has been advocating against the luxury tax ever since it was proposed as part of the Liberal platform, and with a Minority Parliament the government will need support from an opposition party. However, not all the news is bad as the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS) was extended, and a newly-created Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP) that could help dealerships as they recover from the pandemic.
